Josmary Rodriguez, 38, of New Britain, was arrested by Hartford Police around 6:40 a.m. Tuesday after the department responded to the intersection of Gold and Main streets for the report of a car hitting a bicyclist, said Hartford Police Lt. Brian Bowsza.

After hitting the bicycle rider, Rodriguez attempted to flee the scene and ended up slamming into the back of a school bus near the intersection with Wells Street, he added.

Rodriguez then jumped out of her vehicle and attempted to flee on foot before being apprehended by officers, Bowsza said.

Five children on the bus, from the Hartford Region Open Choice Program, were transported to the hospital for minor injuries, police said.

The bicyclist's condition has been upgraded to "stable" condition, Bowsza said.

Rodriguez was charged with DUI, reckless driving, evading responsibility with serious physical injury, driving without a license and interfering with police.
